This study has shown a possibility that we can intervene to permanently protect the baby’s insulin-producing cells. A fetus with a condition which is less nutrients and hormones would result in impair fetus’s function of insulin producing cell in the pancreas. The way they tested on the rats is using exendin-4 which can increase the expression of Pdx1 which is necessary for beta cell. The beta cell produce insulin in the pancreas of mammals, we may use this into human to benefit beta cells to prevent for type 2 diabetes.
