Gut Bacteria may play a role in Human Obesity

There are trillions of bacteria that live inside each person's digestive tract that scientists call gut microbiota. The microbiota assists in metabolic functions by collecting the energy in food, helping store the energy as fat, and converting it to useable energy. Since the effectiveness of microbiota populations varies in each person's body, the differences in metabolic processing among people may explain why obesity developed in people that do not overeat.
