"genetically modified" salmon

This is an article about whether or not the FDA should allow genetically engineered salmon to be approved as food. The salmon are genetically modified to make them grow faster, in turn doubling their normal growth rate. The modified salmon are reproductively sterile so they wouldn't be able to create any harmful interbreeding. They would also be raised in contained inland systems. If the fish are approved by the FDA they would be the first genetically engineered animal to be approved for human consumption.
