This summer, the 2nd smallest surviving baby in the US and third smallest in the world was born. Melinda Guido was born at 24 weeks, weighing 9.5 ounces. Extremely premature babies can oftentimes have issues with development and other issues like blindness, deafness or cerebal palsy. Melinda’s mother, Haydee, told doctors ‘to do whatever necessary to help her baby.’ On Wednesday, Melinda’s eyes were checked, and everything looked good. She can also breathe on her own - oxygen, however, is used as a precaution. Doctors are hoping to have her home by New Year’s. :)
