Recent advocacy against the use of chimpanzees as the subjects extensive research for a hepatitis C vaccine may cause the end of the use of chimpanzees in medical labs in the United States. Advocates on both sides of the issue have a lot to loose - the use of chimpanzees in labs helped find a vaccine for hepatitis B, saving thousands of lives, while chimpanzees in labs are kept in cramped and potential fatal conditions.
