Finding Baby Heart Defects

A new study has investigated the use of a technique, already well established in medical practice, called pulse oximetry, which is a simple procedure that uses an infrared sensor to detect the level of oxygen in the blood in the fingers or toes. The technique can highlight when a newborn has heart problems, and so help identify babies who may otherwise go home without diagnosis.
