Lab-Grown Meat Touted as Possible Solution to World Hunger

Reuters reports that vascular biologists at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands are developing the technology to produce 'cultured meat', a product grown in a petri dish using stem cells from animal materials left over after slaughter. Though the first edible slab of lab meat will cost an adventurous epicurean upwards of $345,000, research suggests that, with the inefficiency and cost of natural meat production, 'in-vitro' meat could be the most sustainable way to put protein on the plates of the future.
